Since 2004, I have been really into buying stuff “off-line” at Thrift Stores, Goodwill, Pawn shops, Yard Sales and then reselling the items “on-line” @ Amazon, Ebay and our web-sites. The fun for me Hobby eventually grew into EDGE Video, which at it’s peak had 4 stores in the Bangor Area. Until 2014, when I died, came back and was in a coma for almost month. When I awoke, EDGE Video was no more. So I still like doing my “hobby”, which gets us to the point of today’s blog, I go through Orland often and I kept seeing this sign for “Orland Treasures” at the Orland Community Center. It’s a great little shop with a huge selection of all kinds of things. After visiting a couple times, I say to the owner, “You know, your shop here isn’t on Google Maps”.
He replied with “I know, I haven’t gotten into that yet.” I said, “I can fix it for you, it’s what I do, kinda like a ‘hobby’” Hobby again. “Sure, go ahead” So I snapped a few pix and went home with my new-found treasures from the shop. One hour after putting his place on Google Maps, I get a message from the owner of the shop. “The Barber across the hall and the woman who owns the tanning salon wants you to put them on Google Maps too. And they’ll pay you to do it.” Now, I am toying with the idea of turning this into a business. I enjoy doing it but I don’t think I’m quite ready yet. I said “I’ll do for a haircut and tanning session.” A deal was made. I am working on developing a new business. Kind of a digital marketing consulting service. But more on that in later blogs. (probably too much on that. I’m kind of a over-promoter.) The three businesses I added are Orland Treasures, Deko’s Kutz and Studio 3½. As always, you can see the new listings by clicking on the businesses above. Also check out the Orland Community Center, they basically re-packaged the old school for events and created a mini-mall of small businesses. It’s a great area to do it in and I know they’ll have great success with the concept. Thanks for reading and come back soon for more of “My Adventures with Google Maps”
