Dairy Queen Grill & Chill
The first Dairy Queen (which sold mostly frozen foods and, of course, Ice Cream) was opened in 1940 in Joliet, Illinois. The company was founded by Sherb Noble and John Fremont "J.F." "Grandpa" McCullough. John and his son had invented the famous “Soft Serve” Ice Cream a few years earlier. Over the years it has grown into a huge franchise with almost 7000 locations globally. It was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffet’s company about 20 years ago.
This review is for the recently opened DQ Grill & Chill in Ellsworth, Maine. It was open on the last day in 2018, kind of a “soft” open while they worked out any bugs and got things spic-n-span. I was looking forward to the opening. They were doing training this past week-end and seemed to be getting ready for the grand opening. The building and set-up looks great. On my first visit, I have a few thoughts, The Interior was a mixture of modern dining and a decor that was celebrating Dairy Queen’s history. It was really put together well. The staff was excellent, they were very fast and yet polite and conversational. I had a flamethrower burger, which basically two burger patties with hot/spicy sauce on each bun. Fries were good, you know it’s still fast food, but DQ basically known for ice cream and cakes. They kinda nailed the food in this location. You can still get the ice cream cakes and blizzards all fun stuff. In Maine, it’s a good idea to throw in the hot food. Nothing to fancy, and they do just fine. I really enjoyed my first experience there and plan on returning several times in the future. I will adjust this review as I try other menu items. In the meantime, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this review or the new Dairy Queen Grill & Chill. |
